Yoder Students Return from World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions with Gold

Yoder International Academy (YIA) is proud to announce the exceptional achievements of its students — Joe, Iris, Zachary, Sharon, Luna, and Nita—who recently participated in the World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. The team returned with an impressive tally of 12 silver medals and 9 gold medals.

The World Scholar’s Cup competition comprises four challenging events: the Bowl, a group quiz; Collaborative Writing, where students collaborate to craft an essay on a specific topic; the Challenge, a comprehensive 100+ question test covering a diverse range of subjects that students needed to study in advance; and the Debate, where our students faced off against teams from around the globe in three intense rounds. Our students demonstrated excellence, exerting their utmost effort to compete against more than 1,500 students from over 30 nations worldwide.

Beyond the competition, the students had the valuable opportunity to tour prestigious universities such as Harvard, MIT, Yale, Columbia, and Fordham. During these visits, they gained insights into American university life, the application process, scholarship opportunities, and the optimal pathways to gain admission to top-tier schools.

Additionally, the students immersed themselves in the American experience, enjoying some leisure time in New York City and Boston. Their activities included visiting Times Square, Fenway Park, watching a Broadway show, exploring the Statue of Liberty, touring the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and much more.

YIA plans to compete in the World Scholar’s Cup again in 2024, and we extend an invitation to any students interested in joining to meet with the coach, Mr. Aaron Jaffe, to learn more about this enriching opportunity!
